The Busines of Social Justice, by Alice Henry

Wednesday we took the subway, to go in the west of Chicago, where we discovered a little firm named Sweet Beginnings. And after returning to the center of the city we met a man who told us his experience and what he did today.

Sweet Beginnings is a firm who create honey products, like for example body cream, shower gel… And its mission is to hire former prisoners to help them to reintegrate into the community. I was impressing about this motivation and I think it’s a really good ambition because they can give another chance for these persons to have a normal life. This company also provide available computers for people who need to do research of work, for example.

The imerman Angels is a man who had two cancers few years ago and now he helps the persons who have a cancer. He told us how he lived this disease and how he came out. For me, he is really courageous because after enduring two cancers, he had the desire to help people who undergo this difficult moment. But like he said, people who got a cancer are more apt to help those who have one, because they know the feelings of these persons and they can better advise and help them.

The thing that surprised me the most about the Chicago neighborhood that we visited, was the houses because some of them are beautiful enough but the area seemed empty and abandoned. Our professor Mrs. Beck told us that years ago, this place was very popular and there was nice to live there.

For me every business should be involved to help people in need. For example help an association, organize events of charity…
Also it should be necessary that all companies accept to hire some people who had problems and help them reintegrate into the community.
