The Whole Food Market, by Cyrielle de Montgolfier

The Whole Food Market

The first April we went to the Whole Food to discover business of food. We were greeted by the store team leader, Rich Howley. He started to explain the concept of the store. Their mission is to have the best healthy, guaranteed and organic food.

They really care about the integrity of the food and want to have the higher quality in all their product, fresh and natural without chemical product. For exemple he explains us that he don’t sell coke because of the bad ingredients in this drink.
Also we learn that Whole Food want to have the least possible waste, if they don’t sell fresh food, they use it in the kitchen and if not they give the food for association or something else.

We done a tour of the most important department and he tells us how he manages all and what's the particularities of each of them.
Everything are a particular emplacement, everything is calculated, Whole Food want to impress the client as soon as he sets foot in the store. For example, the first thing you see it was all vegetables, well dispose. It was so big and colored, that encouraged and impressed customers.

Mr Rich tells us about food supply chain challenge. The supply chain is complicated for food because the supply must be constant and very regular. They need to renew some products every day. They also carry a lot of importance to the origin and quality of the products, they check and certify all their products.

My favorite part of the store was to discover the concept and how they make a such importance to the quality. This put us directly in trust, because we all carry about what we eat and where the food comes from. You can find in every product, the source and read that all food are guaranteed. This concept become more and more popular, people are increasingly affected about their health.

We had our lunch in the store. I was impressed by all the choice we can have. A guest speaker came to talk to us, Michael Moody, a personal trainer and author. He explain us the importance of a good food lifestyle and his fitness training. He also tells us the matter of a good and essential network when you work in business. When your start your business you have to make your own network to expand your sphere of influence. The approach, the trust build your relationship and catalyse your success.

  2. Hello Cyrielle !

I agree with you when you said the most interesting things about our day in Whole Foods was to discover how Whole Food attaches great importance to the quality.
Whole Foods care about sustainability, credibility, and transparency.
In fact, I think that shoppers are now more concerned with the quality of what they eat.
It is also true that recently food’s scandals have had profoundly damaging effect on the confidence of citizens. As an example, in 2013 Findus, a frozen food branch company led its reputation in tatters. Some Findus beef lasagna had been found to contain horsemeat.
Nowadays, we can see many powerful organic marketing campaigns, which are trying to attract people to change their habits.

Like you, my favorite part of the day was to discover the concept of the store. It's my first time i saw a concept like this! It's very true when you said that the store put us directly in trust, because I care about what I eat, and it's really good to know.
If a store like this open in France, do you want make your shopping there?
I was really impressed about the choice we had for the lunch too. According to Michael Moody, a good food life is very primordial. I think food is the best medicine. Do you thing the same ?
